School Board Meeting — March 10

School board members on the dais at Luther Jackson Middle School.

Last night’s meeting of the Fairfax County School Board was noteworthy in that most of the speakers during the Community Participation segment, as well as most others in the audience, were critics of School Board policies and actions.  This isn’t always the case.  Activists on the left often make their presence felt to a greater degree than those who favor traditional values and traditional learning.  I hope last night’s meeting is an indication of things to come.

All twelve Board members are “equity/social justice” zealots who sing from the same hymnal, so it can seem futile to address them at a meeting, but it is important to let them know that their policies are opposed by a significant portion of the population.

I was fortunate to have one of the two-minute speaker slots.  My topic was the School Board’s social studies curriculum, which heavily focuses on concepts of of bias, privilege, identity and power.  I have criticized the curriculum in some of the prior posts on this site.  My remarks at last night’s meeting begin at about 1:11:50 on the video, below.

Several other speakers delivered good remarks.  Take a look at the ones beginning at 1:14:10, 1:25:05, 1:50:10, 1:51:50, and 1:56:40.  I especially liked the last two of the ones I’ve listed.

Update:  I have previously reported that we have challenged the School Board’s refusal to give us the videotape of Ibram X. Kendi’s $20,000 one-hour presentation to school administrators and teachers in August 2020.  We requested the video under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, but the Board said it couldn’t give it to use because Kendi allegedly held the intellectual property rights to it.  Our suit is scheduled for hearing in the Fairfax County General District Court next Wednesday, March 16, at 9:30 a.m.  (4110 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax; courtroom to be determined.

    Thank you Mark!
Great job. And wow! What a meeting it was. It was nice to see that this meeting had the majority of ‘guest speakers’ expressing opposition to the current milieu. Yeah!!
