If It Can Happen in San Fran ….

School Board Election

The citizens of San Francisco overwhelming voted this week to throw three members of the local school board out of office.  Only three of the seven members were eligible for recall.  All three were ousted by more than 70 percent of the voters.

The San Francisco School Board incurred the wrath of parents and other citizens by devoting their time to “social justice” rather than traditional education.  In the midst of the Covid pandemic, with the public schools closed to in-person learning, the board focused on renaming 44 schools whose namesakes allegedly didn’t live up to today’s “woke” standards, including Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and Diane Feinstein.  The board also incurred the ire of the Asian American community by watering down the admission standards for the city’s academically rigorous high school.

San Francisco is perhaps the “woke”-est jurisdiction in the country, but, even there, the public is saying “enough is enough.”  The same thing is happening elsewhere.  Education is becoming a major focus in elections, with voters rebelling against controversial, race-based indoctrination and against watering down academic standards in the name of “equity.”  Right here in Virginia, just three months ago, the statewide election for Governor focused on education like never before.

Voters in Northern Virginia frequently elect a more progressive candidate over one who advocates more traditional values.  That’s why all twelve members of the Fairfax County School Board are from one political party.  But voting tendencies are the same in San Francisco, indeed even more so.

School boards should take notice and should heed to voices of the electorate while they can.  If a voter revolt can happen in San Francisco, it can happen in Fairfax County.

    There is hope.
It’s easy to panic when you see what is happening in this country on so many fronts. With the left pushing too far on too many things, people are starting to wake up. Hallelujah!
