Fairfax Schools Monitor Sues Fairfax Schools — Update
Last Thursday, January 13, Fairfax Schools monitor sued Fairfax County public schools and its Superintendent, Scott Braband, to obtain access to a videotape of Professor Ibram X. Kendi’s presentation to Fairfax school leaders in August 2020. The school system had denied a request for it under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”). See “Fairfax Schools Monitor Sues Fairfax Schools,” January 13, 2022. The case was filed in Fairfax County General District Court.
An initial hearing on the petition was scheduled for today, but the sheriff’s office had not yet formally served our petition on Braband and the school system. Nothing of substance occurred today. The court did, however, schedule a hearing for March 15 at 1:00 p.m. to consider the merits of our FOIA request.
We will post additional notices regarding further developments in the case.
