Chairman of FCPS Budget Committee Charged with Embezzlement
Kyle McDaniel, who heads the Fairfax County School Board’s budget committee, has been charged with embezzlement by a company he was affiliated with until two months ago. A Complaint filed in Loudoun County Circuit Court alleges that McDaniel spent about $160,000 in company funds for personal uses, including family vacations, meals, household expenses, entertainment (including at strip clubs), and even his campaign for the School Board while serving as the company’s treasurer and secretary. The lawsuit was first disclosed in the Daily Wire on April 4.
McDaniel has not yet admitted or denied the allegations in court. However, the lawsuit states that McDaniel admitted in July 2024 to misusing the company’s credit cards and bank accounts for personal expenses, and indeed paid back $50,000, but then continued to engage in the same improper conduct. The Complaint alleges that when he was confronted with this in January of this year, he confessed again, but then deleted all his email activity and failed to cooperate in efforts to resolve the matter.
Although the allegations against McDaniel seem damning, they haven’t been proven in court. What the School Board and the public should demand is a prompt, public, candid response to the claims. If McDaniel misused the funds of a small corporation as alleged, he is surely unfit to supervise the massive $4,000,000,000 spending of a public entity. He should voluntarily resign from the School Board or should be forced to do so. And even if he offers a convincing defense to the allegations, he should be removed from his position as chair of the Board’s budget committee and from any other finance-related functions while the litigation is pending.
